Ricky Gervais has a new comedy for his fans, but this time, it comes in the form of an animation at Netflix, and we’re also dealing with cats instead of humans. If you were expecting a comedy on indoor house cats, then you’d be totally wrong, as Gervais takes it to the streets of Britain.
The first trailer has been released for Alley Cats, and it highlights everything you can expect from a Ricky Gervais show. It follows a group of feral British cats dealing with everyday life, and the trailer showcases how Gervais brings his signature style of heart and social commentary to this adult animated cartoon that we usually find in his shows, such as After Life.

At a first glance, it likely reminds you of another Netflix animation that you’ve probably seen before, but this trailer shows this group of cats not only getting up to no good but also shows the care Gus ( Ricky Gervais) has for his own people, particularly Kitten (Jo Hartley).
From this first trailer alone, Alley Cats looks heartwarming, naughty, ridiculously hilarious and like another Ricky Gervais classic. It offers a little bit of everything, from lines of dialogue that joke about balls (or bollocks, whichever you prefer) to these special down-to-earth moments that talk about how special it is to be a cat, no matter the circumstance.

Alley Cats also finds itself having a stacked cast to help assist Gervais in bringing this heartfelt f*ck-up of a messy family to life. It stars Ricky Gervais as Gus, Kerry Godliman as Lara, Andrew Brooke as Fang, Jo Hartley as Kitten, Tom Basden as Ponce, David Earl as Puke, and Diane Morgan as Olive.
Alley Cats is created and directed by Ricky Gervais and co-directed by Elliot Dear. Ricky Gervais and Steven Hamilton Shaw will be executive producing the show. Tang Heng, known for their work on Kung Fu Panda 1, 2, and 3, will be the production designer. Blink Studios will be animating the series. The show will run for 6 episodes, with each episode being 15 minutes.
If you’re not already excited enough or haven’t watched the trailer yet, here’s what Ricky Gervais has to say for himself: “I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a trailer. I can’t wait for everyone to get to know these cats.”
Ricky Gervais will be attending the Annecy Animation Festival to deliver a masterclass on Alley Cats, where we’ll learn more about the show and get a sneak peek preview of the first two episodes.
