EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell Nexus Point News that Paul Dano is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming remake of Possession. Dano will join Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley who are set to lead the film. Turner and Qualley’s casting was first reported by Nexus Point News.
As announced in 2024 by The Hollywood Reporter, a Possession remake was in development at Paramount. Smile filmmaker, Parker Finn, has penned the script and will be directing as well. Finn is also producing the project with producing partner, Jonathan Fass, Robert Pattinson, and Roy Lee (Weapons, A Minecraft Movie). Although Pattinson was never officially attached to star, there were some early conversations around him starring as well but this seemingly never aligned with his packed schedule. Nexus Point News has reached out Paramount Pictures for comment.
Possession was a 1981 psychological horror film directed by Andzrej Żuławski and written by Żuławski and Frederic Tuten. The film starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill. Possession follows Mark (Neill), a spy who has returned home to West Berlin to find his wife Anna (Adjani) exhibiting disturbing behavior and asking for a divorce. The film premiered at the 34th Cannes Film Festival where Adjani won the award for Best Actress. Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley will be portraying Mark and Anna, respectively. Details on Dano’s role are being kept under wraps.
Dano is best known for starring in Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ Little Miss Sunshine and Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood. Dano’s work on Love and Mercy earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture, and his work on Showtime’s Escape at Dannemora and Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith earned him two Emmy nominations. Dano is also known for his roles in The Batman, The Fabelmans, 12 Years a Slave, Cowboys & Aliens, and Prisoners.
Dano is represented by WME, Anonymous Content, Relevant and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
Possession is set to begin production this July for Paramount Pictures.
