Just a few weeks after San Diego Comic Con, it’s now Disney’s time to deliver some of their biggest news of the year at their very own convention where they celebrate everything Disney. This is an event that takes place every 2 years in California, which all hardcore fans await patiently.
The Disney Entertainment Showcase will allow each studio to present a showcase to show their audiences everything that they have to look forward to in the next year or so. We’ll be getting news from Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and possibly some news on Kingdom Hearts 4.
From first looks at Frozen 3 and Incredibles 3 to a possible full X-Men cast reveal, anything is possible when you believe in Disney.
Here are all the major announcements that were revealed at today’s Disney Entertainment Showcase:
The Princess Diaries Gets A Small Update
Anne Hathaway took to the stage at the Honda Center to give a small update that they’re “currently working hard to get The Princess Diaries 3 right” and thanked the fans for their patience. There weren’t any official announcements or any other updates on the movement, but fans can rest assured that they’ll get the long-awaited threequel that they deserve.
The Simpsons Movie Sequel Receives A New Logo and Title
The Simpsons Movie sequel has officially received a new title, The New Simpsons Movie, and with that comes a brand new spanking logo which features a shiny pink ‘New’ sticker next to it like a brand new toy is being advertised on a television commercial. The attendees were treated to an early animatic of Homer chasing a foul ball throughout Springfield, which was described by some as “super funny”.
The Incredibles 3 Takes the Spotlight
Pixar CCO Pete Doctor has taken to the stage to provide updates on the next Pixar films we can expect. First up is The Incredibles 3, where we get the first details of the movie revealed and a first look at concept art. The third instalment will focus on the kids as they go on a quest to prove that they can be superheroes, sneaking out at night and trying to keep Jack Jack in check. There will be a new Super Hero League as the film focuses on the corporate side of being a hero, while the movie’s new villain goes out of their way to prove that not every superhero is good.
The film will also see Bob facing his internal struggles as a super. The Incredibles 3 will be releasing in 2028 and “round out the trilogy”.
Coco 2 Gets a First Look and a Surprise Kingdom Hearts IV Announcement
The following year, we get another Pixar sequel from another iconic film, Coco 2. D23 showcased the first concept art for Coco 2, which shows a teenage Miguel with Dante. Benjamin Bratt will be returning to reprise his role as Ernesto de la Cruz as he looks for revenge, bringing Miguel back to the Land of the Dead. A first look at Mama Coco was also showcased. Coco 2 will be releasing in cinemas in November 2029.
That wasn’t all for Coco 2, as they revealed that Coco would be an upcoming world for the latest Kingdom Hearts IV, the first Pixar world announced for the game. In the trailer shown, it appears to follow the story of the film until the Heartless appear and Sora intervenes. Sora is sporting a new skeletal look and a Keyblade in the shape of a guitar. Mickey can be spotted inside a library as he tries to find a way to save Sora while Goofy and Donald talk to Hades, believing that he’s in the underworld. The game has officially been given a late 2027 release window.
To top it off, Kingdom Hearts: The Series, an anime, has been announced for both Disney Channel and Disney+, a project that fans have been waiting a long time for. No additional details were revealed.
A New Original Pixar Movie Has Been Announced
Pete Doctor revealed their latest original movie, Ghost Market and he teased the synopsis by saying “Kyle’s life turns upside down when he goes on holiday to Hawaii. He stumbles into a mysterious market in the middle of nowhere… a crossroads for the living and the dead.” This is Pixar’s first ghost movie that’s from the perspective of an influencer. Ghost Market will be releasing in Spring 2028.
Lilo and Stitch 2 Marks the Debut of a New Alien
Lilo and Stitch will be making their return to the big screens soon, but they’ll be joined by a new alien… a new love interest for Stitch, Angel. A video played of Stitch being blinded by Angel, which was showcased to attendees.
Romy and Michele Make a Fabulous Return
Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino took to the stage as their characters to officially confirm and announce that Romy and Michele 2 is in the works. As they say, “Yeah, it’s been a minute. But we’ve been super busy.”
Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse Receives a New Trailer
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 is all about the Goddesses getting involved, so joining Walker Scobell on the stage were Andra Day and Ming-Na Wen who play Athena and Hera respectively. A new teaser trailer was dropped and the season will be releasing on November 20.
Bluey Receives An Updated Look For His First Theatrical Outing
Bluey is going to be making his way to the big screens in 2027, but to be ready, he had to arrive with a new 3D look. The trailer that was released featured Bluey and Bingo playing Keepy Uppy with a red ball before failing to catch it and running as if it were going to detonate.
The audience gave a large reaction to the trailer and then got to play Keepy Uppy with a red ball themselves (let’s hope they didn’t drop it).
Ice Age: Boiling Point Delivers a New Look at a New Scrat
Queen Latifah and Denis Leary took to the stage to reflect on their decades voicing their characters while also teasing the new film and providing a look at a Jurassic, prehistoric Scrat, hinting at the dinos’ return for this latest instalment.
The Live-Action Tangled Receives a Release Date and New Logo
Kathryn Hahn came onto the stage while showcasing a video that gave off the first looks for her Mother Gothel, Teagan Croft’s Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim’s Flynn Rider.
The movie will be releasing in theatres on March 31, 2028.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Makes His Way to Disney+
Jon Favreau arrives onto the Honda Centre stage to officially announce Oswald, which will be a three-part mini-series dropping on Disney+, that will be using traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. The show will premiere in February 2027.
VisionQuest Takes the Stage With First Look
Kevin Feige, Paul Bettany, and James Spader have arrived on stage to first talk about the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe show for Disney+, VisionQuest, which will be a conclusion to the trilogy that began with WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
The official trailer was released, which gave us our first looks at Ultron in his human form, Tommy Maximoff, and Vision trying to fight through this identity crisis. The show will be releasing October 14.
