‘One Piece’ Season 3 Finds Chaka, Pell, Koza and Toto

As we get the trailer for Netflix’s Lego One Piece, we also get some news on casting for the live action, which earlier this year received the subtitle, The Battle of Alabasta.

Netflix has officially dropped new casting news for Season 3, which seems to be filling up the streets of Alabasta with their royal guards and rebels.

Emilio Sakraya (Warrior Nun) has been cast as Koza, a character who was once friends with Nefertiti Vivi and has been running the Alabasta rebellion since Vivi and Igaram left to investigate.

Joining him is Omid Abtahi (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2) as Toto, Koza’s father.

These two characters will heavily showcase how relationships have drastically changed under Crocodile’s tyrannical rule in Alabasta.

Additionally, Jamie Ward (His Dark Materials) has been cast as Pell, one half of Igaram’s head guards that serve under him in Alabasta’s Royal Guards.

Pell’s second half, Nabeel Khan has been cast as Chaka, who serves alongside Pell under Igaram.

One Piece: Into the Grand Line gave a taste of the politics and turmoil that was taking place in Alabasta, but with Koza, Toto, Pell, and Chaka cast, we’re already seeing how One Piece Season 3 will tackle the civil war in Alabasta with representation for the Royal Guards and the rebels forming slowly.

It’s set to be One Piece’s grandest season yet, just as it was for the manga and the anime with this arc. As One Piece continues, it only gets bigger with its scale, and this season will be a test of if the Netflix live action can keep up with those standards.

The synopsis for One Piece: Battle of Alabasta reads: War is coming for Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland. A rebellion threatens to tear the nation apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves. In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand.

Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Taz Skylar, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero, Mikaela Hoover, Charithra Chandran, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Lera Abova, and Joe Manganiello will all be returning for the third season with Hoover, Manganiello, Abova, and Ramamurthy having been upgraded to series regulars.

Season 3 will also include Xolo Maridueña, Cole Escola, Awdo Awdo, and Daisy Head as new cast members.

One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta is co-run, written, and executive produced by Ian Stokes and Joe Tracz. It’s also executive produced by Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements through Tomorrow Studios, Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes, Christoph Schrewe and Steven Maeda. One Piece is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partner) and Netflix. Season 3 is currently in production with shooting taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.
