EXCLUSIVE: 20th Television is developing a drama series based on Kaleb Tuttle’s upcoming debut novel, The Bourbon War, for FX, sources tell Nexus Point News. Matt Shakman is attached to the project.

Details surrounding the novel and the television adaptation are being kept under wraps. Historically, the Anglo-French War is sometimes referred to as the Bourbon War. The conflict between Great Britain and France played a significant role in the events that ultimately led to American independence. It remains unclear whether the series will be a dramatization of this important period in history.

If the project portrays the Anglo-French War, it would mark another period piece for Shakman, who directed the pilot of Hulu’s The Great, the historical comedy centered on Catherine the Great and set in 18th-century Russia.

Shakman is best known for directing the acclaimed Marvel series WandaVision, as well as episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Succession, Game of Thrones, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and The Boys. His feature credits include The Fantastic Four: First Steps and he has been a frequent collaborator of both FX and Disney. Shakman is currently attached to direct the next Planet of the Apes sequel.

For Kaleb Tuttle, The Bourbon War marks his debut novel. Tuttle is currently working as the Director of Development at Brillstein Entertainment Partners. He was previously reported as an executive producer on Who Is Maud Dixon? and Lodi, the latter starring Ewan McGregor. Both projects have been in development, with no recent updates.
