Yellowstone may be gone, but Dutton Ranch is coming to keep the legacy alive. The sequel to Taylor Sheridan’s hit neo-Western drama will follow Dutton clan survivors on a journey to forge a new dynasty.
Helmed by Chad Feehan, Dutton Ranch revolves around Beth Dutton, Rip Wheeler, and their ward, Carter, as they adapt to life in South Texas. Per Dutton’s norm, trouble has a way of finding the family even when they’re not looking for it. After one year in their new home, they uncover a corpse, setting them on a dark chain of events. By the hands of an eerie fate, the powerful mogul Beulah Jackson steps in to make Beth and Rip’s lives more complicated.
Saddle up for everything you need to know about Dutton Ranch, before it premieres on Paramount + and Paramount Network on May 15th.
Previously on Yellowstone

Before we catch up on Dutton Ranch, let’s revisit Yellowstone for a moment. Sheridan’s flagship series, starring Kevin Costner, followed John Dutton as his family fought tooth and nail to protect their ranch, the Yellowstone. Duttons have been defending it for generations. That fight ended after five seasons when the youngest son, Kayce, sold the land back to the Broken Rock Reservation for his family’s sake.
Season five shocked fans to their core with dynamic shifts that rippled beyond Yellowstone. The legendary John Dutton himself met his demise unceremoniously. Initially, believed to be a suicide; his cause of death was unsurprisingly revealed to be a murder orchestrated by Sarah Atwood and his own son, Jamie.
Beth’s disdain for her brother Jamie has been scolding since the beginning of the series, but their poisonous sibling rivalry came to an end when he crossed the line. Although Sarah played a more active role in John’s murder, Jamie sealed his fate through his complicity. To avenge her father, Beth killed Jamie, and Rip disposed of his body. So you can see why the couple needed a fresh start. Unfortunately for them, the results stay the same.
New Friends & Foes At Dutton Ranch

Dutton Ranch stars Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Finn Little, returning as Beth, Rip, and Carter, respectively. Academy Award Nominees Annette Bening and Ed Harris join them as Beulah Jackson and Everett McKinney. Additional stars include Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, and Natalie Alyn Lind.
Bening’s Beulah Jackson is shaping up to be a worthy adversary for our anti-heroes. If John were still alive, she would probably be a worthy adversary for him, too. Jackson is said to be a powerful, cunning tycoon who runs one of the biggest ranches in Texas, if not the biggest. Her land has been in her family for 190 years. She takes her obligation to preserve it religiously and keeps her enemies closer than her friends. This antagonist won’t let Beth and Rip go out of her sight after they land in her crosshairs.
Ed Harris’ Everett McKinney may be the first friend to the Dutton-Wheeler family in their new home. He is a compassionate soul who traded veteran for veterinarian life. Knowing how Rip usually loves animals more than people, these two should get along fine.
Variety reported on the remaining cast members’ characters. Juan Pablo Raba will play Joaquin, “a worker at a major ranch who fixes problems, big or small.” Marc Menchaca will play Zachariah, “a newly released jailbird trying to rebuild his life as a wrangler and cowboy.” Natalie Alyn Lind will play Oreana, “a striking young woman with a wild and free spirit.” J.R. Villarreal will play Azul, “a whipcord wrangler and Rip’s right-hand man.” Finally, Jai Courtney will play Rob-Will, “an imposing, unpredictable ranch foreman.”
The Second Sequel Series, And Hopefully Not The Last In The Duttonverse

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone shared universe has been expanding since the prequel 1883 premiered in 2021. However, the spinoffs were origin stories about Dutton ancestors set in the past, until Luke Grimes/Kayce Dutton’s Marshals came along earlier in 2026. That series follows Kayce after he joins Montana’s elite marshals in the wake of his wife’s passing. Dutton Ranch is the second series in the family’s epic saga post-Yellowstone, with another supposedly on the way.
The next continuation in development is 6666. First announced in 2021, 6666 would revolve around former Yellowstone rancher Jimmy(Jefferson White) working on the titular ranch in Texas. Due to extremely limited updates and news of Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount, the fate of Jimmy’s story seems uncertain. However, there may be no cause for concern, as Sheridan is likely taking his time on the project, according to Christina Alexandra Voros.
Yellowstone origin stories are not done yet. Following 1883, 1923, and 1944 is up next. Not much is officially known about the series, apart from following the Dutton family history at the height of World War II.
