February saw an uptick following January’s infamous lull in the box office. In a time when blockbusters are rare, as they tend to be reserved for summer, animation, period dramas, action flicks, horror movies, and romantic comedies got to share the spotlight.

GOAT, Send Help, Scream 7, Crime 101, Solo Mio, Zootopia 2, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Iron Lung, and Dracula were among the top money makers last month, but Wuthering Heights towers above them all. The animated movie GOAT has been battling Wuthering Heights for the number one spot in theaters, recently grossing at $17M over the weekend in the US, while the latter grossed at $14.2M across the US and Canada. GOAT won the battle over the weekend, but Wuthering Heights won the war over the month.

Sam Raimi’s Send Help holds third place, with Scream 7 not too far behind, coming in fourth. Crime 101, the heist movie starring Chris Hemsworth, holds fifth place while Disney films Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash continue to draw people to theaters, holding their spots in the top 10. The remaining films prove that people will show up in theaters no matter what, just in small numbers.

1) Wuthering Heights ($67,593,493)

Wuthering Heights is an immortal piece of literature that gains new life on a big or small screen every decade since 1920. Based on the novel by Emily Brontë of the same name, the latest film adaptation chronicles the tumultuous love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw in England during the Georgian era. Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie portray the eponymous couple to ensure that audiences flock to see this movie in theaters.

On its opening weekend, Wuthering Heights made $34.8 million. Wuthering Heights made $67,593,493 across February. The period drama has been steadily number one at the box office since its debut; however, we can expect a drop soon as more tentpole films arrive in theaters.

2) GOAT ($61,584,514)

Sony may have no clue what to do with their Spider-Man offshoots, but at least they have a working formula when it comes to animation. GOAT scores the studio’s latest win. The movie starring Caleb McLaughlin follows a young anthropomorphic goat with dreams of making it big in the competitive world of “Roarball.”

GOAT made $27,202,138 on its opening weekend, $35,117,894 including President’s Day, and $61,584,514 in February. Even though the film is not performing as well as it would with a release in Spring or Summer, it is still expected to be a box office magnet this month, based on audience reception and word of mouth. GOAT’s only real competition would be Pixar’s Hoppers.

3) Send Help ($43,495,362)

Every corporate employee’s dark fantasy: Send Help has notably been among the best that last month had to offer. The horror film from Sam Raimi’s wonderfully demented mind is about an employee gaining the upper hand over her insufferable boss after surviving a plane crash and ending up on a deserted island.

Originally projected to make $14 million on the opening weekend, Send Help exceeded expectations, earning $19,102,299 instead and $43,495,362 in February. The film is expected to continue to perform well on the back of positive critical reception, especially regarding the performances of Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien, as well as Sam Raimi’s directing.

4) Scream 7 ($28,800,000)

After Melissa Berrera was fired for speaking against genocide in Palestine, Spyglass opted to make Scream 7 into another soft reboot with Neve Campbell returning as Sydney Prescott. The unorthodox legacy sequel follows Sydney as she tries to live a normal life with her husband and daughters until a new Ghostface emerges to wreak havoc on the ones she loves most.

Despite the controversy, Scream 7 saw $28,800,000 on opening weekend, immediately putting it ahead of Crime 101 on February’s box office leaderboard. A sharp decline is expected due to the aforementioned controversy and extremely divisive reviews.

5) Crime 101 ($27,566,519)

Before assembling once again in Avengers: Doomsday, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo stand on opposite sides of the law, with Halle Berry in the middle, in the new heist movie Crime 101. The story entails a career criminal sharing his philosophy with a mild-mannered insurance broker facing an existential crisis. Of course, there is a relentless detective on his trail.

Crime 101 made $14,251,834 on its opening weekend and $27,566,519 in February. Considering the releases of tentpole films like Project Hail Mary and Ready or Not 2: Here I come, Crime 101 is expected to have a deeper drop at the box office this month, despite the positive audience reception thus far.

6) Solo Mio ($23,152,549)

Solo Mio might be the rom-com specifically for men with broken-heart syndrome. The movie starring Kevin James revolves around a groom forced to spend his honeymoon alone in Rome after his wedding goes horribly wrong. Things take a turn for the better after a good Samaritan and new friends take matters into their own hands to show him that the worst day of his life can lead to the best days.

Solo Mio made $7,001,169 on its opening weekend and $23,152,549 in February. It is expected to maintain steady numbers this month due to positive word-of-mouth and a modest budget of only $4million, so it has already broken even.

7) Zootopia 2 ($17,390,470)

The greatest animal cop the world has ever known reunites with the greatest animal con artist in Zootopia 2. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman’s Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde investigate a series of high-profile crimes committed by the slippery Gary De’Snake.

Zootopia 2 made $100,262,540 on its opening weekend at Thanksgiving last year, and dropped to $17,390,470 in February. After an amazing run at the box office, Zootopia 2’s time in the spotlight continues to wind down. It’s already available on VOD and expected to finish its theatrical run in the coming weeks.

8) Avatar: Fire and Ash ($15,804,675)

The Na’va saga entered a new chapter in Avatar: Fire and Ash. The threequel, hailing from James Cameron, follows the Sully Clan facing off against a new tribe: the Ash People, led by Varang, a huntress with an insatiable thirst for vengeance. Tensions on Pandora boil higher than ever as a new moral dilemma emerges.

Avatar: Fire and Ash made $89,160,860 on its opening weekend over the Holiday season and dropped to $15,804,675 in February. Closely behind Zootopia 2, Fire and Ash also had a fantastic theatrical run. As expected, numbers are decreasing as the movie’s time in theaters is coming closer to an end.

9) Iron Lung ($13,263,596)

Iron Lung is the beginning of a transition from Markiplier’s YouTuber to filmmaker saga. Based on the video game of the same name, Iron Lung follows a convict in a post-apocalyptic future, exploring a blood ocean on a moon in a vessel known as the Iron Lung.

Iron Lung made $17,800,000 on its opening weekend and saw a decline with $13,263,596 in February. The movie is widely considered a success story for indie filmmakers and YouTubers after it more than tripled a tiny $3 million budget on opening weekend. As bigger titles continue to emerge, Iron Lung is expected to see decreasing numbers soon.

10) Dracula ($11,982,433)

The Prince of Darkness’s tale rises once again in Vertical Entertainment’s Dracula. This iteration is an origin story following a 15th-century prince as he inherits an eternal curse after he loses his wife and condemns God.

Dracula made $4,400,264 on its opening weekend and $11,982,433 in February. The reimagining of the world’s first vampire is expected to see a decline at the box office due to rising competition across various genres in a few weeks.
