As announced, Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Ari Aster’s next feature, Scapegoat, for A24.
Sources tell Nexus Point News that Scapegoat will be centered on a surgeon, played by Johansson. Johannson’s character is tasked to operate on a Jake Paul-inspired character who dies during the surgery. The film will follow the fallout of his death and the scrutiny the surgeon will face primarily by the film’s main antagonists, the character’s wife and brother. The wife will be inspired by Erika Kirk, and the brother will be inspired by Logan Paul.
Ari Aster penned the script and will direct and produce under his Square Peg banner alongside Lars Knudsen. The film will be Aster’s fifth feature film as well his fifth film with A24. Aster previously wrote and directed Hereditary, Midsommar, Beau is Afraid, and Eddington, with the latter two being produced by him as well. Aster is repped by William Morris Endeavor (WME) Entertainment, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Aster and Knudsen’s credits as producers also include Dream Scenario, Bugonia, and most recently The Drama, which starred Robert Pattinson and Zendaya.
Scarlett Johansson recently wrapped production as the lead of Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Exorcist film. She will next begin production on the highly anticipated The Batman: Part II with Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, and Charles Dance. Johansson recently led the latest entry in the Jurassic World series and appeared in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme. Additionally, she directed Eleanor the Great, which released this past year. This year Johansson will be seen in Paper Tiger, set to premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn. Johansson is repped by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Bailey Brand Management, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman.
Production on Scapegoat is expected to commence later this year.
