Emmy nomination voting closed on June 22, and with ballots now in the hands of the Television Academy, the countdown to nomination morning on July 8 has officially begun.
In Drama, The Pitt looks set to dominate once again, emerging as the clear frontrunner after its highly rated second season that should translate across series, acting, writing, and directing. Still, Apple TV’s Pluribus and HBO’s Task appear primed for strong performances of their own, while The Diplomat, Slow Horses, and Paradise remain certain contenders. With several categories lacking obvious locks, Drama may prove more competitive than expected.
Comedy, meanwhile, is shaping up to be one of the season’s tightest races. With The Studio notably absent, Hacks and The Comeback are looking to bid farewell on a high note, while Abbott Elementary and The Bear return less confident. Margo’s Got Money Troubles also looks poised to break through in a big way, particularly in acting for its three stars, Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman. Newcomer Widow’s Bay threatens to steal everyone’s thunder, however, despite three episodes falling outside of this year’s eligibility window. Matthew Rhys could pull off one of the year’s rare doubles, earning nominations for both the Apple TV comedy horror series and The Beast in Me.
The Limited Series categories may prove the hardest to predict of all. Beef returns with a formidable cast, while The Beast in Me, DTF St. Louis, and Half Man all have the potential to rack up multiple nominations. FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette could become a force to be reckoned with in acting, setting up one of the year’s most crowded races ahead of nomination morning.
