Nexus Point News had the pleasure to sit down with Reacher Season 4 stars Agnez Mo and Anggun to discuss one of Prime Video’s biggest shows, the plot twists, villainous turns, Alan Ritchson and the Asian representation brought to the screen.

Hello to both of you. It is an absolute pleasure to be able to talk with you today. Congratulations on the release of the show as well; it is my favorite concurrent—like, ongoing—show, so I’m so happy to be able to talk to you. How are you doing? How’s everyone?

Agnez Mo: Good, good. LA is not as hot as two weeks ago, so that’s amazing.

Oh. It’s been awful over in the UK. We’ve finally got our first drop of rain, so I’m still drying off from that.

Anggun: I’m leaving for Paris tonight and it’s no longer a heat wave, which is great, because French people don’t believe in air conditioning!

I wish we did. We’re just not built for that, unfortunately. But I will jump straight into the questions!

Of course. Reacher is arguably Amazon’s biggest show of all time, the viewership constantly improves and one-ups itself. What’s it been like getting stuck in and joining this world 4 seasons down the line?

Anggun: I’m a huge Reacher fan since the very first season, and it’s so surreal for me to actually be cast in something so massive, because that part of being a fan when you like something so much and then joining it is crazy! And I think every single season they really up their game. In Season 3, they found someone even bigger than him, and it left me thinking who are they going to pair him with for the next season? And then, of course, they had to go the other side of ‘The Dutch Giant’, to the other way and they instead found two Indonesian ladies very small compared to him. And it’s that duel and contrast that makes it really interesting for me – it’s what I like about the series, that you always have that surprise element. And in this season, the plot twist and the surprises… You just don’t know what’s coming! So as a true fan, I’m so happy to be in this season, because I think it’s the best season so far.

I’m not going to disagree. I’m not!

Agnez Mo: I’m not disagreeing either! It’s subjective, but it’s the same thing here for me. I think everybody knows that Reacher is the biggest Amazon show at the moment, but I actually also found out that it’s not just the Number 1 in the United States, but it’s worldwide! And what was so exciting about it is the way that the creator and the scriptwriters wrote all of the characters. I think it’s so brilliant, and it’s so incredibly human to make these two villains, Indonesians, representative of Southeast Asians, or just Asians in general, but then they don’t make that as the main point of the story. They’re just human beings. There’s layers to them, there’s complexity in both of their characters, there’s a lot of revealing from episode 1 to episode 3, to episode 4, and then all of what’s to come. And you can’t really put these villains into one box. They’re vulnerable, they’re intelligent, but they’re also calculated. And I just love when writers write a character that doesn’t just go into the stereotypes or the idea of what women should be or should behave or what Asian women should look like. They just write this as a human being, as an individual. I just think that’s probably the biggest compliment, you know, for an actor.

I also think that makes some of the best villains sometimes. And you’ve got the confidence to go toe to toe against Alan Ritchson, which, as you said – I mean, I met that dude a few years ago in 2019. He was huge then, but now he’s like, literal Hulk. He is a walking Hulk. It’s crazy! And obviously you get to work with him. How was hanging with him on set and obviously off set? What’s that been like for you?

Anggun: The thing is, we didn’t really hang out on him off set, because he filmed every single day. He’s back for season 5 soon as well! He just doesn’t have a break. It was actually quite hard to get him into rehearsals for us, for the fighting scenes, because his schedule is so, so tight.

Angez Mo: And not to mention that the finale is not the only fighting scene that he has on the show, right? So he has to train for all of the other hundreds of choreographies that he had to do for all the other scenes. But he’s amazing, he’s so committed, so incredibly committed to playing Reacher. And it’s just amazing to see someone that could take a role really seriously and really embody that character. But also I have to give credit where it’s due to all the crew, from the director to the producer to the executive producer to the DP to the—you know, everybody there was just, like, giving us a family vibe, and they just want this show to be the best that it could be. The communication was amazing with the director, with the creator of the show. So it was, you know, it was a blast for, I’m sure, for the both of us.

Agnez; you started acting at 13, and now you’re one of Indonesia’s biggest pop stars ever. What was it about Reacher that got you back into on-screen drama after a 10-year break, I believe it was? I’m really genuinely fascinated by that, especially for a role like in Reacher, where you’re the villain. Like, it’s so specific and I’m really interested in that.

Agnez Mo: You know, Tom, it’s so crazy. I just got goosebumps when you said that because it was that long, huh? Like, I actually hadn’t really been acting in over 15 years, so it was for a lot of reasons, because I was in the film & TV business before the industry wasn’t healthy. I guess that’s the way to put it, as it is now. There was no time limit or hours or safety precautions and all of that like it wasn’t how it is now obviously.

And you know I had acted since I was a kid until I was around in my early 20s, so I felt like I needed to have some space in my time as well to be creative, to be mentally healthy. So I stopped acting, not because I didn’t love acting or like I stopped loving acting, but it was more so that I wanted to take my time to really home in on my art in music. And in those 10 years of me focusing when I first moved to the U.S., going back and forth, Asia to L.A., there were offers on the table, but the characters were very stereotypical Asians. That were either you’re this sexy something or you’re this, and I thought we’d moved past all of that. I just felt if I wanted to go back to acting, is that really the first representation? And the first thing that I want to do to represent myself? And also to represent my country?

I think it was in January 2025, I talked to my team and I was like, you know what? Looking at all of the success around Asian casts and characters with shows like Beef and Crazy Rich Asians and more… I told them, “You know what? I think it’s time for me to just go back into acting.” And then a couple months after that, there was an audition for Reacher. I remember that I did three scenes for the audition. And even in those three scenes, I could already tell that this character is layered, and by that time I hadn’t even read the episodes yet. And thank god they loved the audition tape and they called me back. We did the chemistry test, on and on. And then finally when I booked the job, they sent me all the episode scripts. And I was just like, “Yes, this is what I want to play as kind of like comeback to acting.” So it’s been fun. It was really fun playing Lila.
