Two years after the previous instalment, the Dune saga returns with its third and final film. Originally titled Dune: Messiah, the film was later renamed Dune: Part Three. The movie will adapt Dune Messiah, the second novel in Frank Herbert’s Dune series. Both Dune: Part One (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) were based on the first book.

Warner Bros. has officially released the first trailer for Dune: Part Three. The trailer opens with Paul Atreides and Chani discussing the name of their future child, as they hold onto each other. Dune: Part Three will take place 17 years after the second film, as we watch Paul Atreides rule as Emperor after the Holy War. Watch the trailer below:

Warner Bros. also unveiled a series of character posters yesterday evening, offering audiences their first look at our group of characters ahead of the trailer’s release.

The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who also directed the previous two instalments. Villeneuve confirmed that Dune: Part Three was shot on film rather than digitally, like the first two films. Filming began in July 2025 and wrapped in November 2025.

Hans Zimmer will return to compose the score, while Linus Sandgren (La La Land, No Time to Die) takes over cinematography duties from Greig Fraser, who worked on the first two films. Fraser was unable to return due to scheduling conflicts with Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles projects. Villeneuve also co-wrote the screenplay.

The cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson,

Dune: Part Three is set to be released on December 18, 2026, where it will face box office competition from Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to premiere on the same day.
