Kit Connor and Taika Waititi have been cast as Charlie and Wonka in Netflix’s new animated film Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory, Nexus Point News has learned.

Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory is set years after the Golden Ticket incident. The story follows Wonka, newly freed after spending years behind bars, as he sets out to make the world a better, sweeter place. There’s just one problem: Charlie and his friends are standing in his way.

The full synopsis reads as is: Willy Wonka has returned to his factory after years behind bars for the crime of turning a child into a blueberry. Determined to add a little sweetness to a bitter world, only one thing stands in his way: teenager Charlie Paley and a new generation of “rotten” kids.

Jared Stern (The LEGO Batman Movie) and Elaine Bogan (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia) are set to direct the film. 

Sony Pictures Imageworks will be animating the film. The studio is best known for KPop Demon Hunters, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.

Kit Connor is best known for his breakout role as Nick Nelson in Netflix’s hit coming-of-age series Heartstopper. Connor has voiced Pantalaimon in His Dark Materials and Brightbill in The Wild Robot. Connor is set to star in Alex Garland’s Elden Ring adaptation next. He is repped by Independent Talent Group, William Morris Endeavor (WME) Entertainment and AdVoice.

Taika Waititi is best known for his work as an actor and filmmaker, including his Academy Award-winning film Jojo Rabbit and his direction of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. Waititi is repped by Gail Cowan Management and Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
