Nexus Point News has confirmed that the working title for The Batman: Part 2 is ‘Semper Vigilans.‘ This working title may also have revealed exactly who Batman will be dealing with in this sequel.

Semper Vigilans is Latin, and Semper stands for “always”, while Vigilans can stand for many words, such as “watchful” and “vigilant” and words of that same variety. It’s safe to say that Semper Vigilans means “always watchful”. This is the motto of several institutions, with the US Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol being one of them, and is commonly found upon security or police forces, signalling constant readiness and being prepared at all times.

The working title ‘Semper Vigilans’ likely has two meanings in The Batman: Part 2. We know that with The Batman, the vigilante has more of a focus than the man behind the mask, Bruce Wayne. Matt Reeves has already teased that Batman is constantly battling these forces, and like we saw at the end of The Penguin, he’s already on another case, and like Batman says himself at the start of the first film, “But I’m there too, watching…” With Reeves teasing that corruption will be going deeper within Gotham in this sequel, this working title could easily be teasing Batman’s role in this movie.

The second meaning could also be teasing a secret organisation that’s using the motto ‘Semper Vigilans’ for themselves that fans have been expecting to see appear in The Batman: Part 2, and that’s the Court of Owls. In the comics, there’s a nursery rhyme about the Court of Owls that goes like this:

“Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time, ruling Gotham from a shadowy perch behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed; speak not a whispered word of them, or they’ll send the Talon for your head.” The key is in that nursery rhyme: the Court of Owls are always watching from the shadows of Gotham, similar to how Batman watches from the shadows, waiting.

The Batman: Part 2 is currently eyeing beginning production on May 29th, where it’ll be filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Liverpool and Glasgow, all for its scheduled release date of October 1, 2027.

Matt Reeves returns as director with co-writer Mattson Tomlin. Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Wright will all be reprising their respective roles as Batman, Alfred Pennyworth, the Penguin, and Jim Gordan.

New additions to the movie are Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, with the latter in an undisclosed role and Stan portraying Harvey Dent.

Luke Hull will be the production designer for the sequel, while Erik Messerschmidt will be replacing Greig Graser as the cinematographer.

Robert Pattinson can be seen in The Drama, now out in theatres, and Dune: Part Three later this year, and he has stated that he’ll begin preparing for The Batman: Part 2 once The Drama press tour is over with.
