March delivered what February hinted at: the box office is officially awake. With spring releases beginning to roll out, audiences showed up in stronger numbers this month. While a few films from February remained in the mix, the new March arrivals dominated the conversation.

Hoppers and Project Hail Mary led the charge this month. While Hoppers hit the ground running at the beginning of the month with one of the biggest animated openings in years, Project Hail Mary blasted off in the second half, ultimately claiming the crown for the month.

Scream 7 held surprisingly well despite its divisive and controversial presence, while Colleen Hoover’s third adaptation, Reminders of Him, emerged as another romantic drama success. Returning titles like GOAT and Wuthering Heights continued to pull in audiences, albeit at a slower pace. Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Undertone were also among the top earners of the month. On the other hand, The Bride! struggled to find an audience, becoming March’s biggest disappointment.

1) Project Hail Mary ($164,302,240)

The long-awaited adaptation of Andy Weir’s best-selling novel finally arrived and has been receiving loud praise from both critics and general audiences. Project Hail Mary follows a hesitant middle school teacher who finds himself on a desperate, lone mission to save Earth.

Opening to a strong $80M domestic weekend, it became the second-biggest opening for a non-franchise film, behind Oppenheimer (2023) with $82.4M. The film has quickly built momentum through word of mouth and overwhelming praise. Project Hail Mary has grossed $164M throughout the month of March. With minimal competition in the sci-fi space, it’s expected to remain a dominant force heading into April.

To date, Project Hail Mary has earned over $300M worldwide.

2) Hoppers ($138,558,236)

Hoppers earned $13.2M on the film’s domestic opening day, the biggest opening day for any original animated film in years, since 2017’s Coco. It opened to $45M for its debut weekend.

The story is centred around humans discovering how to transform the human consciousness into robotic animals. The film has been a huge success for Pixar, securing $138M for the month.

It has surpassed $297M worldwide.

3) Scream 7 ($67,663,351)

Despite controversy and a mixed reception, Scream 7 maintained a solid presence in March. After its February debut, the film added $67M this month.

While a steep drop was in question, audience loyalty to the franchise, along with the return of Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott, helped stabilise its box office performance, making it the most successful Scream film yet.

Scream 7 has grossed over $200M at the global box office, becoming the first film in the franchise to cross that milestone

4) Reminders of Him ($41,072,200)

Reminders of Him is Colleen Hoover’s third book-to-screen adaptation. Based on her novel of the same name, it tells an emotional story of redemption, love, and second chances.

Exceeding expectations, the film legged out to $41M in March, thanks to strong word of mouth and Hoover’s dedicated fanbase. It stands as one of the month’s biggest surprises. The film is expected to finish in the same range as last year’s Regretting You, Hoover’s second adaptation, starring Allison Williams, Dave Franco, and McKenna Grace ($48M).

5) GOAT ($30,645,435)

The Stephen Curry-inspired Sony animated hit, starring Caleb McLaughlin, continued its strong run into March. While competition from Pixar’s Hoppers cut into its audience, GOAT still managed to bring in $30M during the month, bringing its domestic total to $100M. This marks Sony’s first film to hit that milestone since 2025’s Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.

It was a great month for animated children’s films. This marks another success in what has been a strong run for Sony Animation Pictures.

6) Dhurandhar: The Revenge ($22,767,392)

The Indian spy-action thriller made waves domestically, drawing strong turnout from both diaspora audiences and action fans alike.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge follows an undercover Indian intelligence agent in a spy-action thriller.

With a solid $22M earned in March, Dhurandhar: The Revenge found even more audiences globally with a $89M worldwide figure.

7) Undertone ($18,462,321)

The psychological thriller Undertone carved out a solid horror audience with its eerie atmosphere and strong performances.

A popular paranormal podcast host begins having experiences similar to those sent in for her podcast.

Opening to solid numbers, it accumulated $18M over the month, proving that smaller-scale genre films can still thrive in a crowded market.

8) Ready or Not 2 ($16,277,870)

The sequel to the cult hit, Ready or Not, proved to be another success, opening to $9M domestically. In comparison, the first film earned $8M in its opening weekend.

After Grace survives the events of the first film, she finds herself stuck in another game alongside her estranged sister, who must put everything aside to work together and survive.

Earning $16M in March, Ready or Not 2 has performed similarly to its predecessor so far.

9) Wuthering Heights ($13,569,490)

After dominating February, Wuthering Heights, based on the infamous novel of the same name, began to slow down but still maintained a presence in the top 10.

Adding $13M in March, the romantic period drama continues to benefit from Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie’s lead performances as Heathcliff and Catherine, bringing their complicated love story to life.

Wuthering Heights has now grossed $236M at the global box office.

10) The Bride! (12,692,441)

The Bride! was met with mixed-to-negative reception and weak word of mouth, leading it to open with $7.3M and close March with $12M, marking it as one of the month’s biggest box office disappointments.

Maggie Gyllenhaal reimagines Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein with a story set in 1930s Chicago, in which scientist Dr Euphronious creates a companion for Frankenstein’s lonely monster.

With an $80M budget and a star-studded cast, The Bride has grossed $23M worldwide.
