One Piece Season 2, aka One Piece: Into the Grand Line, saw the Straw Hat pirates finally making their way into the Grand Line, visiting various islands after getting their hands on a Log Pose, a navigational item that measures the magnetic field between islands and must be reset when the island is reached to lock onto a new island.

We saw some returning faces, such as Buggy (Jeff Ward), Garp (Vincent Regan) and, of course, our Straw Hat pirates, but most importantly, we met a lot of new characters, some of them allies and most of them enemies.

The final three episodes of Season 2 adapted the Drum Island arc, which saw the Straw Hats taking Nami (Emily Rudd) to Drum Island to get cured by Kureha (Katey Sagal) and Tony Tony Chopper (Mikaela Hoover). They also thwarted the selfish and brutal Wapol (Rob Colletti), who had Drum Island under his vicious rule, freeing the island. With a new crew member onboard, the Straw Hats’ adventures are still far from over.

Here’s how One Piece Season 2 ended and what it all means.

Tony Tony Chopper Joins the Straw Hat Pirates

Upon arriving on Drum Island, the Straw Hats quickly came to learn about the witch Kureha (who wasn’t a witch) and Tony Tony Chopper, a half reindeer-boy who ate the human-human fruit.

Episode 7, “Reindeer Schemes”, extensively goes into Chopper’s backstory, how he came to meet Dr. Hiriluk (Mark Harelik) and Kureha and how he became a doctor. We learn a lot about Chopper’s relationship with Hiriluk and how he’s become the person that he is today. He can come off quite shy, but when it’s time to defend his friends, he’s ready for a fight no matter the opponent.

After assisting Sanji (Taz Skylar) in defeating Chess (Mark Penwill) and Kuromarimo (Anton David Jeftha), Luffy invites Chopper to join the Straw Hats, officially becoming their appointed doctor. Kureha still doesn’t believe in Chopper’s dream to become a pirate and disapproves, making for a heartwrenching goodbye.

What is the Will of D?

Throughout the season, characters ranging from Smoker (Callum Kerr) to Kureha have made connections between Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and Gold Roger (Michael Dorman). Their smile, laughing in the face of death and people’s belief that he may be the one to actually find the One Piece.

The only issue is, Gold Roger isn’t his true name, and Kureha calls him “Gol D. Roger”, and when Dalton corrects her, she responds with, “Is that what he’s known by these days… the Will of D. lives on?”

Manga readers and anime watchers will know what the Will of D. is, but for viewers who are only sticking with the live action, you’re going to have to wait a little while before learning more about its overall significance. Luffy, Dragon (Rigo Sanchez) and Garp all have the Will of D., and Netflix has already revealed that we’ll be meeting Portgas D. Ace in Season 3, who also holds the Will of D.

The Straw Hats’ Next Adventure

During Season 2, the Straw Hats came across Miss Wednesday (Charithra Chandran), who first appeared to be a bounty hunter working for Baroque Works, but it was soon revealed that she was actually Nefetari Vivi, princess of Alabasta and was undercover trying to figure out who was behind Baroque Works, who had been putting her country on the verge of civil war.

She and Igaram (Yonda Thomas) discovered the true identity of their leader, and she’s hoping to get back in time to her father in hopes of putting an end to Baroque Works’ scheme and saving her kingdom.

After leaving Drum Island, Vivi expected that the Straw Hats would leave her once they dropped her off at Alabasta, but Luffy tells her that they’re going to help her defeat Baroque Works and save her kingdom before going back on their search for the One Piece.

Baroque Works. Straw Hats. Everything is pointing to Alabasta...” – Smoker

Who are Mr. 0 and Miss All Sunday?

In the final scene of One Piece Season 2, it’s revealed that the true identity of Mr. 0 (Joe Manganiello) could shake up the foundation of the Marines. We soon find out that Mr. 0 is none other than Crocodile, a man who has his bounty cleared by the World Government.

The defeat of Wapol doesn’t affect him, as his treasury will prove to help in his cause. Crocodile reveals that Miss All Sunday’s (Lera Abova) true identity is Nico Robin, and her wanted poster uses a picture of her as a child with a bounty that’s almost double the size of Luffy’s, at a whopping 79,000,000 Berries. We get a small tease at her backstory with the wanted poster and also the fact that she doesn’t like being called by the name Nico Robin.

It seems like everything is coming to plan for Crocodile as he tells Nico Robin that they’ll commence with Operation Utopia and that “Alabasta will fall…”, with him coming one step closer to obtaining the One Piece.

Although their identities have been revealed, their overall plans and goals are still kept in the dark, with a lot to be revealed in Season 3. If Crocodile wants to go for the One Piece, then he’s going to have to get through Luffy before doing so.
