The press for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has kicked into motion with Tom Holland and Zendaya travelling the globe, partaking in photo calls while we fans ambitiously await updates from Ned’s (Jacob Batalon) Spider Tracker, which went live a few days ago.
Tickets are now available to book for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and a new trailer has been released, increasing the hype as we get closer to the release of the movie on July 29th in some territories and July 31st in the US. As usual, we’re going to be breaking down all the new scenes in this trailer scene by scene.

The trailer kicks off with Spider-Man (Tom Holland) swinging into action and bursting through shop signs, unable to control the momentum of his new organic webs. He lands in front of Mac Gargan/Scorpion (Michael Mando), who’s fitted in his new suit equipped with a scorpion tail, taking him on in a fight. Scorpion first has the upper hand, saying, “Did you miss me, Spidey?” before Spider-Man’s eyes turn fully black, losing control of himself and overpowering Scorpion. We then get the line of Peter Parker saying, “I got to fix whatever this is right now.”
This entire dialogue and exchange is so interesting because, as long-time Spidey fans, it’ll instantly remind us of how the symbiote controls Peter, but it’s the least likely thing that’s probably affecting him and instead has to do with the mutation that he’s going through. What seems to trigger it from the various scenes we’ve seen looks to be whenever he’s being overwhelmed in a fight. It happens again near the end of the trailer where we find him facing The Hand, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t happen once more during his fight with Hulk, who makes an appearance later in the trailer.
Peter Parker is struggling internally, watching his friends on social media at home on the couch, or just whenever he gets a chance. He wants to be involved in their lives, but unfortunately can only do that from afar, as he has a greater responsibility that he has to uphold.

This trailer focuses a lot more on the mutation that Peter Parker is going through as we see him place his webshooters onto his suit before they’re shot off by the force of his organic webs. We return to Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), where we get some new dialogue as Peter asks Banner, “You’ve found a way to suppress mutant DNA?” Banner shows off his inhibitor and tells Parker that if he sees him without it on, to run and then proceeds to jokingly roar at him in pure Hulk fashion.
Seemingly, it seems like Peter Parker doesn’t hate everything about his recent mutation, as he asks Bruce if there’s a way to “get rid of the bad aspects but keep the good”. “How would you decide what parts of nature are good or bad?” Banner responds, and this piece of dialogue teases some interesting and hopefully complex character development with Peter as he has to face several decisions surrounding both his life as Peter Parker and as Spider-Man.
There are shots of Spider-Man struggling to swing with his new organic webs as we see him swinging with pigeons all over his body, smashing into water towers and crashing weddings. “It appears we’re faced with a threat we can’t control, one we can’t even see,” says William Metzger (Tramell Tillman), the director of the United States Department of Damage Control. His inclusion in the film hints at further confirmation that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey, as his comic counterpart led an anti-mutant militia, and it feels like the DODC will be one of the mutants’ adversaries in the future.
We also get some confirmation when Spider-Man is looking around at the frozen people that his suit, or at least his mask, appears to still have some technology that gives him information, but it doesn’t appear to be as detailed as Stark’s suits.

We return to the mystery of the looming threat in Spider-Man: Brand New Day as we get a better look at the hooded figure and the capabilities of their powers. Our bets are still on Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, and we witness how she shoots a wave of force that causes people to freeze as she’s able to jump from body to body. “You’re the only one immune to it, the only one that can sense it”, making this a job that only Spider-Man can deal with, but the question is what’s making him immune to the hooded figure’s abilities. It also seems like Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) isn’t affected as the wave goes through him, freezing everyone around him. It seems like the hooded figure has a connection with both Spider-Man and Frank Castle, which is why they’re not being affected, but their motives are unclear so far.
We get a new look at the house-warming party that’s taking place at Ned and MJ’s (Zendaya) apartment, where Peter Parker spots a board where Ned is trying to figure out the identity of Spider-Man. MJ enters the scene and introduces herself, and Ned responds with, “You two don’t know each other?” This is either hinting at the fact Ned and Peter have had previous interactions without MJ being present or Peter has invited himself to this party and the two aren’t aware of who he is, as the previous trailer highlighted Peter mentioning that he’s a neighbour across the hall.
A shot of Spider-Man being knocked out of the alleyway with webs chaotically making a mess leads into a scene which could be directly after or cut from elsewhere in the movie, a civilian asking Spider-Man if he’s okay and if he’s gotten that monster out of him yet. While at first it might seem like a concerned civilian, it’s likely Sadie Sink’s character that’s controlling them and taunting Spider-Man, aware of the mutation that he’s going through and the struggles he’s fighting. The hooded figure then proceeds to jump from body to body talking to Spider-Man and saying, “I think I might go see how MJ’s doing.”
Before we get to the shot of MJ, we see Hulk being influenced by the hooded figure, his inhibitor in Spider-Man’s hand and him turning into the menacing Hulk we’ve been yearning for. Spider-Man jokingly makes a quip and says, “I didn’t know you could get that big” before we see the Hulk begin to attack Spider-Man by thunder-clapping him.
Throughout this next part of the trailer we hear Aunt May’s voice as she says, “This whole thing can get really scary, but the people who love you love you because you’re you. Never forget that, no matter how powerful you become” – a strong message that Peter is likely remembering as he visits May’s grave to help him push on despite what he’s gone through. I can imagine this fitting somewhere in between the end of the second act and the third act of the film.

The next scene in the trailers sees Spider-Man arriving at MJ’s apartment telling her that she’s in danger and that she has to trust him. Without any hesitation, she agrees and we’re followed by shots of them swinging in the city before seeing the two at Punisher’s hideout where MJ and Frank Castle go back and forth asking who each other is.
“Frank, please, I don’t have anywhere else to go,” is a line that Spider-Man says here, and while it fits within the context we’re seeing of Spidey trying to keep MJ somewhere safe, there’s also a possibility of this line being from a completely different part of the movie. That’s trailer magic for you; not everything is exactly as it seems.
We next get a shot of Peter Parker in his civilian clothes falling down NYC, and it’s quite difficult to decipher what’s taking place in this scene. It could all be in his head, part of the mutation, or it could be a whole different reason altogether that’s not clear just yet.
We return to the prison scene from the first trailer with The Hand and get a beautiful shot of Spider-Man unmasked on his knees, with Peter’s face hidden in the darkness and the vibrant colours of his suit popping out. This showcases how Peter Parker’s life continues to be kept in the shadows while the full focus goes to being Spider-Man and the friendly neighbour that New York City needs but also might be the first hints of how the “monster” inside of him takes over.

His eyes go fully black, likely being the negative impact of the mutation that Parker mentioned to Banner earlier in the trailer, and from above, we see him perform a web tornado as he strikes down members of The Hand.
We then end on a final shot of Spider-Man pulling Hulk from a high-rise building as we see Hulk falling down to the streets with the debris attached to him with webs. Just like the last trailer, we get a comedic moment of Spider-Man stretching before he takes out some DODC soldiers.
Tom Holland has been claiming that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be his best Spider-Man movie yet, and these trailers are already proving that we’re tackling a new era of Spider-Man that we haven’t gotten before. This new trailer delivers on a lot of new scenes which provide a clearer image of the type of threat this hooded figure is that Sadie Sink is portraying, and we even get to see a more visual display of how her powers work. We also finally get our first look at Hulk and his destructive force, which has been dearly missed within the MCU.
Just like the first trailer, this second trailer is absolutely amazing, and if we continue on this right path, Tom Holland might be right in thinking that this is the best MCU Spider-Man film that we’ve had yet.

If you were lucky enough to view the latest trailer through the Insomniac Games social pages, you would’ve seen a special announcement in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on July 28 when the film releases in the UK.
