The marketing for Spider-Man: Brand New Day started yesterday when fans across the world were sharing the love for the titular character and teasing us for the past 24 hours with clips from the official trailer.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, with the help of their own Tom Holland, have officially released the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and there’s a lot to dissect. We’re going to take a look at the trailer scene by scene and break it down for you.

As the trailer opens, we witness Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in his new Spider-Man suit, sporting the shiny webshooters, sitting upside down on a skyscraper as we see the New York City skyline. He watches a social media post by Ned (Jacob Batalon) that shows both his and MJ’s (Zendaya) excitement for starting at MIT.
This is a new Peter Parker that we haven’t got before. As we hear the sirens in the background, he sighs, mask on, and falls off the building. The shot from within his mask and seeing his eyes as he free falls highlights the change in his character since the world forgot Peter Parker. He’s emotionless and focused on being a hero but is still clearly chained by the ones he loves.
We then get a monologue from Peter Parker as we see him holding a handwritten letter which he appears to be reading out that says, “Hi, I’m Peter Parker. You don’t remember me, but we used to know each other. Something bad was going to happen, and to stop it was to make everyone forget about me. Because I’m not just Peter Parker. I’m Spider-Man.”
As he’s saying this monologue, we see Peter Parker at a deli as Ned walks in, causing him to freeze. We see Peter washing his Spider-Man suit as he sits beside the washing machine, a first for the web-crawler, as we’ve only had tech suits in the past (excluding his homemade outfit). Ned and MJ are watching the news as Spider-Man receives the key to the city from the mayor. What should be a monumental moment for Peter, but there are bigger problems dwelling on his mind, as we see throughout this trailer and largely with this monologue.
It’s clear from this point that he’s constantly thinking about revealing the truth to Ned and MJ like he promised them back in No Way Home, but this could be considered a selfish move since they’ve moved on with their lives, which is what might be eating up at him from the inside, going back and forth between the decisions.
At the end of the day, he is Spider-Man, and that’s his full focus now as we see him put on his mask and jump off the roof with style and flair.
The trailer starting off with Peter’s feelings and how he’s been doing mentally since the world forgot about him, putting all focus on his duties as Spider-Man, really tells us that Spider-Man: Brand New Day plans to focus on this greatly.

We get the first explosive action scene of the trailer as Spider-Man swings through the streets getting shot by militarised vehicles. In pure Spider-Man fashion, he gets hit by a black van which is revealed to belong to Frank Castle/Punisher (Jon Bernthal), who’s making his first appearance in an MCU movie and his first appearance since Daredevil: Born Again Season 1.
It already seems like there’s a relationship between Spider-Man and Frank Castle, as Spider-Man says, “What the hell, Frank, you just hit me with a van!” To which he responds, “Quit your whimpering,” aiming a shotgun at Spider-Man, who webs up the barrel, but that doesn’t stop the Punisher, and he proceeds to shoot him anyway.
Spider-Man propels himself into Frank’s van, kicking him out and webbing his mouth before he gets the chance to swear in our (likely) PG-13-rated movie and tells Frank to “go home”. This scene itself is just fantastic because we’re getting to see the dynamic between both Spider-Man and Frank as the former annoys him with his quips, getting in his way and stopping him from getting to his target. It’s at least clear that they’re after the same thing, but Spider-Man isn’t a fan of the way the Punisher deals with situations and would rather handle it on his own.
Peter’s monologue continues from before as he says, “And sometimes Spider-Man has to do the hard thing, even if it breaks Peter Parker’s heart.” This is indeed heartbreaking with Peter at what appears to be a heartwarming party seeing MJ get close to someone else who’s being played by Eman Esfandi (Ahsoka).
What I’d say is the most interesting part about the trailer is that something is happening to Peter Parker’s body; it’s changing. He faints and we see him wake up in a cocoon, representing the metamorphosis and also how female spiders protect their eggs, making this a rebirth for Spider-Man (hinted later on in the trailer).

Spider-Man partakes in scans to figure out what’s changing in his body, but ultimately we see him go to Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) or shall we say Dr. Banner at presumably ESU as Peter is wearing that hoodie. We should point out that Banner was in the middle of teaching Lattice Quantum Dynamics, and while honestly I have no clue what that means, it could connect to the rings from the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings post-credit scene or the upcoming and highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.
It’s also important to notice that Bruce Banner doesn’t remember who Peter Parker was, and while we got confirmation that the spell worked back in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s worth noting who does and doesn’t remember. Banner notes that his DNA is mutating, which could be extremely dangerous; we see a scene of Spider-Man’s head causing him pains with the world violently shaking around him, which likely takes place before he comes out of the cocoon, as he’s still wearing his web shooters.
Scenes of Peter in a completely webbed-up room and being flung across rooftops showcase that he’s likely getting used to his new organic webs, or maybe the Hulk is involved with the latter and just flinging our small little buddy.
We then get a new narrator that’s not Peter Parker who begins to tell us some very important and useful information. “Spiders have three cycles. When between cycles, it can leave the spider vulnerable to threats. And for those spiders who make it through, it amounts to a kind of rebirth.” It’s not confirmed who’s talking and who is being kept a secret, but our safe bets are on Tombstone despite it sounding a lot like the iconic Keith David.
Throughout this, we get quick shots of Peter visiting Aunt May’s grave, a person locked up wearing a green outfit in a well-furnished containment unit who’s eager to get out, buildings exploding with people running out and the huge reveal that people are being controlled who are causing all this chaotic danger.

We get our first look at Tramell Tillman, who’s head of the DODC and who says, “We are faced with a danger that we can’t control, one we can’t even see.” The character we saw in containment are then later seen as they raise their arms. This secret is being kept closely to their chest, but with people being controlled, the green coat and yellow hoodie, it feels like Jean Grey is being teased and that we’re getting our first look at Sadie Sink.
There’s a lot to digest in this trailer as we also get a first look at Mac Gargan (Michael Mando) in his Scorpion suit, which looks similar to the animated Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man look but more technologically advanced, attacking Spider-Man with his tail as he’s swinging, telling him to “stay out of his way“.
We’re then met with shots of Spider-Man chaotically rolling and falling off rooftops, more of the Spider-Man and Frank dynamic, an intimate moment with Spider-Man and MJ and finally back to an earlier scene of Spider-Man trying to stop the APCs on the street.

The trailer then ends on some fantastic shots as we see the perfect recreation of the Amazing Fantasy #15 cover, Spider-Man facing off against Boomerang, Tarantula and even The Hand, which he uses his webs to shatter one of their swords, a scene that doesn’t feature his web shooters. We then get a shot of Spider-Man leaping at a group of Hand members outside with a woman in a distinctively different outfit leading the charge.
We get a final humorous scene of Peter dropping off flowers at the house-warming party which reveals that Peter lives across the hall from them, to which MJ jokingly says, “Friendly neighbour“, which causes Peter to choke on his drink. It’s also worth noting that MJ has a spread of Spider-Man pictures on her apartment wall, hinting that she remembers a relationship with the web crawler and has a fascination with him. We know how smart MJ is, and if anyone can deduce that he’s Peter Parker, it’s her. She did it before.
There’s a lot to take from this trailer, but the main thing is that with Peter Parker no longer having a balance with his two lives and putting all focus on Spider-Man, we’re starting to see him go through a rebirth. Eyes fully blacking out, organic webs – we might be getting our hints at Man-Spider coming our way.
Destin Daniel Cretton is already showcasing a distinctive visual look to the previous trilogy as we enter a new era in Spider-Man’s life. The action looks phenomenal, the colour grading fitting perfectly with the scenes they’re accommodating, and the movie taking a huge focus on how Peter’s life is changing and how that begins to affect him not only mentally but also physically.
This is was a spectacular first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and is looking like it’s going to be an amazing film! You can watch the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day below:

Sadie’s character in that shot is in the room as Peter when he develops his caccoon
The shot with Tarantula features NYPD (no fire department in the trailer sadly)
Banner’s wearing the Hulk Inhibitor Device
Two of the Hand members use some sort of baseball bats instead of swords
and as seen from the set pics (shown here again), DODC agents not using Stark Sonic Cannons unlike in Ms Marvel, She-Hulk and Wonder Man and instead have regular guns
