Halfbloods never hesitate on a quest, and neither does the cast and crew of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Season 3 of the hit series, based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling novels, is set to premiere later this year on Disney Plus. While we wait, here is everything we know about the upcoming season.

The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Riordan’s book saga, notorious for leaving fans on the edge of their seats, is being adapted. That story is well-known for its darker tone and higher stakes for Percy and his demigod peers. Due to Riordan’s direct involvement and the showrunners’ affinity towards the source material, the expectations for season 3 are as high as Olympus.

Though no official synopsis was given, the third season will see Percy, Grover, and new allies on a quest to save Artemis and Annabeth from Atlas. Time is not on their side because if they don’t save them by the Winter Solstice, Olympus will fall.

Production wrapped in March, but enough footage was filmed to tease fans. In a post-credits scene, Percy and Annabeth are slow dancing at what appears to be a middle school formal, much to the delight of “Percabeth” fans. What exactly led the young pair of heroes to that moment remains to be seen.

New Demigods, New Problems

Percy, Tyson, and Thalia are not the only children of the Big Three. Soon, the sons of Poseidon and the daughter of Zeus will meet their cousins, the children of Hades – Nico and Bianca Di Angelo, played by Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercombie.

Nico and Bianca are arriving at an uneasy time, as Percy comes to terms with Thalia’s return and the Great Prophecy. It’s being foretold that a child of the Big Three will determine the fate of Olympus when they turn 16. In other words, one of them will save the world or destroy it. These are not problems any teenager should have.

New Gods, Same Problems

Apart from the demigod drama, Percy Jackson will have to contend with gods he has never faced on screen before. The Titan Atlas, his daughter Zoë Nightshade, and Artemis enter the fold, played by Holt McCallany, Saara Chaudry, and Dafne Keen respectively. Additional gods include Minga Na Wen as Hera, Jennifer Beals as Demeter, Hubert Smielecki as Apollo, and Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite.

Atlas is the primary antagonist this season, while Kronos’ dark presence looms over the series. According to Deadline, McCallany will appear in six episodes. Future appearances are likely, given that Atlas persisted as a thorn in Percy’s side throughout subsequent books. Artemis and Zoë are two integral characters who become valuable allies to Percy and the band of heroes. Their quest to rescue Artemis drives the plot, and Zoë is on the same mission to save her from her evil father.

Hera, Demeter, and Apollo have supporting roles and a common enemy in Atlas. However, Aphrodite would be more chaotic. The Goddess of Love has been a foil to the protagonist in The Titan’s Curse for the sake of stirring drama. Expect to see Kate McKinnon’s Aphrodite having fun at the expense of Percy Jackson’s love life.

More New Faces

Outside of the pantheon of the Gods, Dr. Thorn and Frederick Chase join the ensemble, played by David Costabile and Jesse L. Martin. Costabile’s Thorn is a mysterious military headmaster who crosses paths with Percy. Without spoilers, we’ll say he is more than meets the eye. If you read the books, you know exactly who he is. Frederick Chase is bringing family conflict with him as Annabeth’s mortal father, whom she has not seen in years.
